Understanding how intensity becomes addiction
Inspired by "The Hyperreal" by @amasad
"Hyperreality is exciting, but too much of it is destructive to humans. It takes us out of our natural flow and makes us into addicts."
The modern technological system is optimized to produce hyperreality. Every app, every algorithm, every recommendation is designed to extract the most exciting parts and serve them endlessly.
Deep focus, creativity, genuine satisfaction, sustainable energy
Constant stimulation, diminishing returns, emptiness, exhaustion
"Are we doomed to eternal hyperreality addiction? It is a potential answer to Fermi's Paradox. Intelligent life evolves until all it does is produce and consume hyperreality at the expense of exploring the stars."
Maybe every civilization reaches a point where perfectly optimized digital stimulation becomes more appealing than exploring the universe. We might be watching it happen in real-time.
Notice when you're consuming hyperreality. Awareness is the first step.
Everything in moderation. Hyperreality isn't evil, excess is.
Build protective norms and rituals in your life.
